Governor Dr. Wilber Ottichilo commissions 148 agripreneurs in Vihiga County under the NAVCDP program to enhance agricultural productivity and sustainabilityVihiga County has officially deployed 148 newly trained agripreneurs under the National Value Chain Development Project (NAVCDP) to support agricultural growth.

During the commissioning ceremony at the county headquarters, Governor Dr. Wilber Ottichilo announced that these agripreneurs would operate under the Department of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries for 18 months. Their responsibilities include registering and profiling farming households and large-scale farms such as commercial, institutional, greenhouse, and ranch operations.

Additionally, they will map farms using Global Positioning System (GPS) technology, document value chain actors, and provide training and extension services to farmers. Dr. Ottichilo emphasized that this initiative marks a significant step in shifting the county’s agriculture from subsistence to commercial farming.

He also urged farmers to adopt climate-smart agricultural practices to mitigate the adverse effects of climate change and reduce reliance on rain-fed farming for improved productivity.

To support these efforts, five motorbikes were commissioned to facilitate extension services in wards not covered in the project’s first phase.
