On Saturday, President William Ruto conducted an inspection of the ongoing rehabilitation project for the Bura Irrigation and settlement scheme in Tana River County. He emphasized the crucial role of irrigation in Kenya’s efforts to ensure national food security.
President Ruto highlighted the significance of the Bura Irrigation Scheme’s rehabilitation and expansion. This project aims to increase the irrigated land area from 12,000 acres to 25,000 acres, resulting in a substantial improvement in agricultural production, including 950,000 bags of rice and 500,000 bags of maize annually.
In addition to enhancing agricultural productivity, the President emphasized that this expansion will also lead to the creation of over 120,000 jobs and contribute significantly to the country’s economy, with an estimated annual boost of Sh5 billion.
