A digital agriculture partnership in Tanzania is opening new doors for smallholder farmers. Mixx by YAS, the Cereals and Other Produce Regulatory Authority (COPRA), and Yas Business have joined forces to modernize agriculture through digital tools.
The agreement, signed on July 9 in Dar es Salaam, shows a strong public-private commitment. Together, they aim to improve how farmers access markets, receive payments, and track crop prices. The Super App, developed by Mixx by YAS, allows farmers to check live market prices, sell produce digitally, and get secure payments via mobile phones.
Angelica Pesha, CEO of Mixx by YAS, believes this marks a turning point.
“We’re not just connecting farmers to buyers. We’re giving them equal footing to compete in modern markets,” she said.
To kick off the project, ten key farming zones will receive digital display boards. These boards will show real-time prices and offer educational content. In addition, farmers will get trained on using mobile apps and digital tools.
COPRA Managing Director Irene M. Mlola applauded the effort. She said it builds trust, transparency, and access in Tanzania’s agricultural markets.
“This initiative aligns with President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s vision of transforming Tanzania into a regional food leader,” she noted.
Norman Kiondo, Acting Chief Business Officer of Yas Business, added that internet access is critical. The team will install towers in remote areas and run digital literacy programs to help farmers adapt.
This digital agriculture partnership in Tanzania benefits more than just farmers. It also strengthens data access for cooperatives, investors, and policymakers. As a result, the agricultural sector can grow smarter, more inclusive, and more competitive.
