Brookside raises raw milk prices to cushion farmers

More than 160,000 dairy farmers across the country are set to benefit from
a 17 percent increase in raw milk prices by Brookside Dairies.
From 1 st September, the Ruiru-based processor has been buying a litre of
raw milk at Ksh42, up from Ksh36 a litre.
The higher price is meant to cushion members of dairy cooperatives and
smallholders contracted by the processor, against the economic effects
brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Brookside offer has been welcomed by the farmers, who have often
decried the low milk prices offered by processors.
A majority of the processors have been buying a litre of raw milk at
between Ksh25 and Ksh28.
With a daily processing capacity of 1.5 million litres, Brookside is the largest
buyer of raw milk from Kenyan farmers.
